Tokyo, Japan Trip 10.0

Hi there ! Just done the PBL and a last report for this semester today, but we still have 2 more presentations to go in this two weeks before the final exams, stress level is increasing day by day gradually. Hope I still can survive after all these hectic weeks. Well, this gonna be my last post of this trip after posting for about 3 months finally. Should end this early since I have drag it for such a long time. This should be quite a short post since not much photos were taken on the last day.

# DAY 10 #

Today is the last day of spending in Tokyo after more than a week of travelling. Our flight is in the evening so there’s still some time for us to explore and shopping in Asakusa before heading to the airport.

As I mention in the previous post, Asakusa has emerged for tourism as a must-visit historic area in Tokyo with the famous Sensoji temple and a lively street market leading up to its iconic temple buildings. Starting at the entrance area of Kaminarimon is the Nakamise Shopping streets, which include the main walk-up to the temples main grounds, full with small stalls lined street of over 250 meters that selling handmade crafts and traditional souvenirs, as well as some traditional kimonos and yukatas. Be sure to check out the cross streets too, these are all a part of the shopping experience at Asakusa, with laneways covered with hundreds more stalls with unique items for sale. So let’s follow me to take a walk and look at the Nakamise Shopping streets of this traditional-feeling town of Asakusa.

Don't fret about getting hungry either, as there’s mouth watering Japanese delicacies being handmade freshly for you to fill up on.

12

So this is the very popular Japanese cakes – Ningyo-yaki (人形焼) in Asakusa that you definitely can’t missed it. These small cakes are made by pouring batter of flour, eggs and sugar into special molds and typically filled with red bean paste, but may also be filled with chocolate or matcha flavor. It’s fun to discover the different shapes made by different shops such as birds, trees, lantern or cute cartoons like Doraemon and Hello Kitty. At some of the shops, you can even watch Ningyo-yaki being made and try them fresh. This is one of my favorite Japanese sweets and a very popular omiyage gift. We do grab some boxes for our souvenirs back home.

13

The Japanese ice-cream stall is heavenly although they will make you eat it in front of the stall, no walking away before you finish it to prevent you split it over to other stalls or dirty the laneways.

14

I loving this matcha ice-cream so much !

Japan has long tried to make its airports more than just places to transit from, they tend to be more like shopping malls that you just happen to be able to fly out of. Haneda Airport, Tokyo is no exception, as it has very impressive shopping and dining complexes alongside the domestic terminals. When you head to level 4, here they have attempted to reconstruct an Edo-style village according to seasons with an arrangement of Japanese lanterns and antique-style facades. This is quite a unique atmosphere in all indoors to let visitors transported back in time to the Edo period. The village houses a number of restaurants serving everything from Ramen or Sushi to European and Chinese food. There are also some souvenir and clothing shops in this village.

In sharp contrast to the traditional atmosphere of the fourth floor is “Tokyo Pop Town” on the fifth floor, which divided into a “Hot Zone” and a “Cool Zone”. This floor has shops selling merchandise featuring Japan’s best-known anime and characters and fashionable miscellaneous goods. The Hot Zone features a Hakuhinkan Toy Park carries a wide range of toys to look at, play with and enjoy, and even has a 50-meter long slot car circuit where thrilling races take place. In the Cool Zone, is the popular Planetarium Starry Café where visitors enjoy meals under skies with 40 million twinkling stars. This Tokyo Pop Town is surely a place that you can visit and take the kids to for a few hours and will not get bored.

39

I saw familiar face ! Hello kitty Sanrio store located at the Hot Zone too!

40

Although I was getting so excited about it, however I didn’t buy any stuffs or souvenirs from here too ~

45

Also the other main attraction on the 5th floor is an outdoor observation deck that offering a 270-degree panorama and close-up views of aircraft taking off from the runways as well.

41

Of course, there’s also souvenir shopping corners available here if you forgot to pick up souvenirs during your travel. Haneda Airport offers a series of souvenirs shop where you can buy some chocolate or sweets as the souvenirs for your family and friends. For me, I definitely wouldn’t miss out the Royce chocolate which is my favourite brand for chocolate especially so in love with its dark bitter chocolate.
